Submit:
1. Three examples of your work that demonstrate an ongoing interest in covering the environment. Climate
change stories are particularly apt, but they are not required. Demonstrate that you are interested in
environmental issues and that you have covered them as a journalist. Submit tear sheets, discs of broadcast work
or URLs to online reports.
2. An essay of no more than 300 words that explains how you will take the knowledge and information that you
gain in Alaska and make it relevant to your local readership. How will this trip better inform your reporting
about climate change back home? Make your strongest pitch why you should be the one who comes.
3. Resume
4. Two references with the contact information. These could be from supervisors, colleagues, competitors, sources
or others.
5. If the ONLY way you can attend is by competing separately for the very limited scholarships, note that here and
submit a separate statement explaining why you need such help.
Applicants require explicit approval from their employer to apply for Alaska: Reporting on the Climate Frontier which runs from Aug. 13 to Aug. 16 of 2008. Your direct supervisor should sign and date this statement: I understand that if the above applicant is selected for the Alaska: Reporting on the Climate Frontier fellowship they will need to be gone from work Aug. 13 to Aug. 16. I fully support this application and authorize the applicant’s absence during that period.
