"The Knight Center provides unique opportunities for students to learn new skills and develop existing ones, preparing them for their journalism career."

I was awarded a visual journalism fellowship last summer at The Poynter Institute. During my time there, I worked in a small team to report, generate and produce story ideas for our weekly publication. I had the amazing opportunity to work with award-winning guest lecturers who were designers and photographers for major U.S. publications. The Poynter staff provided guidance and invaluable individualized training to help us succeed.

I have been at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Ga., for more than a year as the communications coordinator for their peace programs. The entire experience so far has been unique. I've traveled with Carter delegations to Liberia, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo and soon Nicaragua. I also handle media requests for high-profile figures and gather feature stories for Center use.

The best part of my job is being around former President Carter; hearing him speak and photographing such an amazing person. The center impacts people's lives through its peace and health work, and I'm proud to be a part of the organization.
